From the Bakken to Marcellus and the Rails In Between

In this issue:

We’re completing the portfolio overhaul begun a month ago with three new buys to follow the three recommendations in the last issue. Headlining this week’s slate is Cabot Oil and Gas, a red-hot gas driller situated in the sweet spot of Pennsylvania’s booming Marcellus Shale. Oil drilling in the Bakken Shale of the northern Rockies is growing fast as well, and in this issue we examine the rush to transport crude by rail, and recommend a railcar stock advancing rapidly. Finally, we tap a top Bakken producer getting a lot of bang for its conservatively budgeted buck. Among the reader questions addressed this week is one about our portfolio holdings’ sensitivity to crude  prices. There is no avoiding such risks in an energy porfolio. But we believe our picks, old and new, will fare better than most in a broad array of market scenarios.
